 Regional Preserve Lake Lungo and Ripasottile

 

It’s about 3,000 hectares of preserve very close to Rieti, around the two lakes connected by a canal, it’s toady the witness of an ancient ant wide basin fed by Terminillo Mount. From the observatories you can do bird-watching.

 

Places to visit:

Cantalice: many medieval witnesses, remains of St. Andrew’s Cloister, the Church of Our Holy Lady of the People that keeps a beautiful Door of the 1500s.

Hills on Velino: St. Mary Magdalene (with paintings of F. Bellardi); St. Thomas from Grumolo or Tower of Old Moro; Our Holy Lady of Buonconsiglio in Collespina; the remains of Quinto Assio’s Roman House (in Grotte St. Nicola).

Contigliano: the imposing Collegiate of St. Michael from the 1700s; witnesses of the Abbey of St. Pastore from 1255 with the church; the Cloister, the capitulary hall and the bell tower of 1200; the church of St. Phillip; the church of St. Lawrence.

Poggio Bustone: the interesting medieval plant of the center with remains of the walls, the tower and the gothic Door called of Good morning, in memory of the greeting that St. Francis gave to the inhabitants. The Sanctuary of the Sacred Speco, a small church built on the cliffs of the mountain. Inside it, a short staircase takes to the Cave, where the Saint went to pray. They use to let the small bell chime by pulling the rope placed outside.

Rieti: the tradition tells that it’s placed at the center of the Italian peninsula (signed by a stone placed in St. Ruffo Circus). Some remains of Roman walls witness the ancient “Raete” capital city of the Sabine: Garibaldi Street and Oberdan Square. There are major clues of the medieval city, with its embattled walls with towers of the 13th century, surrounded by many doors: Roman Door, Arci Door, Conca Door. Palace of the Government; the Cathedral, built in 1109; the Bishop’s Palace, the roman Church of St. Francis; the Municipal Museum; Vecchiarelli Palace; Vicentini Palace.

Rivodutri: the Church of St. Michael Archangel; the Church of Our Lady of the Valley; the Alchemic Door (with symbolic writings and friezes).

Regional Preserve Mounts of Duchess

 

The preserve is placed in the most eats and wild section pf the territory of Rieti. These mountains have a naturalistic value among the most important of the region. The lake of the Duchess is placed at almost 1800 meters of altitude.

 

Places to visit:

Inside the preserve, and in the surrounding areas, there are many archaeological remains, witnessing a necropolis, roman villas and structures of the Medieval Ages.

 

Corvaro di Borgorose: the medieval village, the Roman Italic Sanctuary of St. John in Leopardis, the sepulchral mound of the Equis.

 Regional Preserve Mount Navegna and Mount Cervia

 

The preserve stretches in the Massif of Mounts Carseolani, on the watershed between the lake of Salto and of Turano.

 

Places to visit:

 

Collalto Sabino: the ancient village with the baronial castle, built in the 15th century, restored in 1600s and in the 1800s, the Cloister of St. Francis restored in 1620.

National Park of Gran Sasso and Mounts of Laga

 

It’s one of the biggest parks in Italy. The Latial slope is dominated by the Mounts of Laga, with smoothed tops and rounded by the rains and by the snow-melting. The impermeable nature of the rocks, creates flows and waterfalls. In this area there are: the source of Tronto, the waterfalls of Ortanza, of Boats, of Scalette and of Morricana. At valley there are charming small lakes, among which the one of Selva and Secco..

 

Places to visit:

Accumoli: the renaissance Guasto Palace, Communal Palace, Palace of Power with the municipal tower.

Amatrice: the church of St. Francis from the second half of the 1300s with frescoes of the 14th and 15th century; the Church of St. Agostino (15th century); the church of Our Holy Lady of the Graces (4 km from Cossara), 14th century and frescoes of the 15th century.

Winter ski-plants:
