The park, whose name refers to the three regions included, is the most famous in Italy. The area in Latium territory is divided into three parts:

Another small part in our region is south of the crossing of Forca d’Acero, until the mount of Serra Traversa right in front of it;

Quite wider is the very green part of Canneto Valley, that from the Three Borders goes down to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Canneto (founded in the 8th century and recently restored) and then to the lake of Grottacampanaro, towards Picinisco.

 Regional Park of Simbruini Mounts

The Park, of naturalist importance, is placed at the border with Abruzzo and includes several peaks around 2000 mt: Viglio and Tarino.

The name of the massif comes from the Latin “sub imbribus” which means under the rain. Caves and dolinas tell us about the Karst nature of the territory that absorbs the rain and the waters from the snow melting. Many sources give the water back to the surface, they’re quality and flow are remarkable, and we’d like to mention the sources of Aniene, Pertuso and Ceraso.

Places to visit:

All the villages in the park give you the chance to make interesting artistic and cultural paths: Camerata Nuova, with the old village and its many witnesses of the Neolithic Age; the medieval village of Cervara di Roma, placed on a rock high wall, favorite place, since the 1800s, of many painters and artists; Jenne, with its fort and the frescoes from the 1500s; Subiaco, rich in Bendectine monastieries; Vallepietra and its Sanctuary of the Holy Trinity with frescoes on the rock walls of the 12th century; Filettino, with its Saracene Walls (4th and 5th century b.C.) and its many churches of different periods; Trevi in Latium, with the remains of Castani Castle and its medieval churches.

Regional Preserve Lake of Posta Fibreno

The preserve rises by the slopes of Mounts of West Marsica. It’s a lake-basin made by the waters coming from the National Park of Abruzzo, Latium and Molise. The floating island, the Rota, is rich in water plants and peat. The typical boat called “Nàue” (built with boards nailed and pasted with a special mix of flour and musk), is used to reach the floating island or to fish on the lake (only allowed to the inhabitants).

Places to visit:

In the communal territory there are two archaeological sites of proto-historic and archaic ages. The first stretches on the west side of Posta Fibreno, the second lies close to Colle Roccia-Spinelle, by a Roman Villa.
